This is a wonderful set of books for accurate, botanical descriptions of Hawaiian plants. A nice companion to the many photographic books on the subject that just don't quite describe or show what I needed to know.

An extraordinary work.

Comprehensive, beautifully illustrated with botanical drawings. A stunning work of scholarship, it is the ultimate reference for Hawaiian flora. Two large volumes. Intended for professionals, but amateurs like myself who persist (and use the glossary at the end of volume two) find it fascinating. Be sure to get the 1999 edition rather than the one from a decade earlier.

This is the go-to manual for all of the plants found in Hawaii. It is a little out of date, as some of the genera have been renamed, but that is inevitable and print is a finite media. A glossary of name changes since publication would be a good companion product.
