Home to Heather Creek Series
By Amanda Talbert
I have to say, I really, really enjoyed these two books. I was grateful to receive both books which are books 1 and 2 in this new series, written by a few authors under one pen name. I read the first book in one day, and the second one in less than two days. These books are fun, interesting, and will keep your attention. You will love the characters and get wrapped up in their lives right away!
The series begins when a grandmother and grandfather have to take in their three grandchildren when their mother suddenly passes away. The first book is entirely the beginning of their new lives together, as a new family - strangers, really - in a new place. The kids are all in those pre-teen and teenager years which makes it even more difficult. The grandmother struggles with the regrets she has from raising her own children and finds she has to rely more and more on other people to help raise these children.
The second book is still focused a lot on the adjustment of all of them to family life. There are totally new adventures, though, in this book. The kids seem to be really struggling, and Charlotte, the grandmother, is really second-guessing her parenting skills.
The family has to rely on friends and God, or else they are going to break under the pressure of trying to rebuild their lives.
I loved the conversations in this book and loved the writing styles of both books. I highly, highly recommend these series. I really want to read the next one when it comes out!
Thank you to Guideposts and Litfuse Publicity Group for giving me a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.

An inspiring continuing story in the Home to Heather Creek Series
By Jill P. Jones
The second book in the Home to Heather Creek Series, "Sweet September", continues the story of Sam, Emily and Christopher as they adapt to life on their grandparents' farm after the death of their mother. Charlotte is struggling to keep her grandchildren on the right track and not make the same mistakes with her own kids, but she finds it more difficult as the times have changed since she raised her own kids. She and her husband, Bob, are having a difficult time finding a balance between being grandparents that should be spoiling them and parents who need to discipline them.
Each book in this series promises to be filled with a heart-warming and inspiring story of how God works in our lives. Our lives may not be easy. In fact, we may be going through difficult times that are hard to understand, but God will always be present to bring us peace, comfort, hope and joy.
I loved this book even more than the first. The children have begun to accept their grandparents and are getting past their grief and moving on. They are learning the importance of acting like a family and are even becoming fond of living on the farm.

Sweet September

What can be more traumatic for a child than losing mother to a senseless accident? They have no other choice than to move in with their grandparent on a farm out in the middle of nowhere land. For city kids, in their opinion, this is not a good move. Since they have an absentee father what else could they do. They do not really even know their grandparents since their mother had been estranged from her parents except for an occasional phone call. Two moody and pouting teens, the oldest a man/boy whom keeps to himself and a girl that hates the world and everything in it. Then there is a much young boy that looks to his older siblings as to how he is suppose to react to his new life on a farm.
But they are not the only ones trying to cope with their grief, their grandparents and uncle are also grieving while trying not to let the kids see how difficult all of these changes are effecting their own daily lives. Routines are what the grandfather thinks will be best for them, though their grandmother would prefer to take it easy on the kids until they have been able to adjust to their new school and surroundings. She fears making the same mistake with her grandkids as she did with their mother. Everyone in town has advice, prayers and condolences with good intentions for the kids and grandparents. Some are helpful, others just create more problems.
In book two, as the family gets into their daily routines something or someone starts destroying the garden they worked on so hard. The kids and their uncle come up with some hair brain ideas solve the mystery of the missing vegetables. All becomes clear when a perfect stranger visits the farm and turns out to be a true blessing to the whole family. Its seems God has some very special plans for this family as their hearts open and begin to heal.
This is a heart wrenching story that many of us can relate to through one or more of the characters. I am looking forward to reading more books in this series. I would definitely like to spend more time with this family as they grow together. I would recommend this book to anyone trying to blend family members. I think it is a fun idea having authors come together to contribute their writing talents to this series
I highly recommend this series.
Disclosure: I received a free copy of both books from Guideposts and Litfuse Publicity Group for review. I was in no way compensated for this review.
